IC INFO Name: Ren Amamiya Canon: Persona 5 Canon point: 10/15 Age: 17 Gender: Male Height: 159 cm (about 5"9) Apperance: Unkempt wavy black hair. Dark grey eyes. Average build PERSONALITY P5 SPOILERS. Read at your own discretion. Ren Amamiya follows the Persona tradition of being a silent customizable protagonist. Many of his actions are left up for the player to decide. You even have the option of changing his name at the start. That doesn't necessarily mean that he lacks a personality. The characters in the game perceive him in a certain way and it's possible to form an outline based off that alone. Other source materials such as the manga and anime make it easier to find a "canon" personality. This application will assume that the protagonist didn't max out most of his confidants or go on any dates. His canon point is 10/15 so there's no time for that.
The students and teachers at Shujin academy see Ren as a troublemaker, good for nothing delinquent and a thug. Some even say that he carries drugs and knives on him. His teachers say that he's a defiant piece of garbage. Most of the rumors surrounding him aren’t even remotely true. Ren’s got a terrible reputation so he chooses to distance himself from others. At the end of the day he's got trust issues and it's incredibly hard for him to close that distance. The fact that he’s got a criminal record doesn’t help either. People are quick to assume the worst about him. His standoffish attitude makes him hard to deal with initially. Others who have interacted with Ren would say that he's quiet and thoughtful. Akechi Goro and Ryuji Sakamoto both comment on how Ren never says much. He's the type of individual who's somewhat introverted. Once a person has become acquainted with Ren more they would realize that he's just a socially awkward teenager. He's silly and often makes jokes. It may take a while for Ren to open up, but at his core he isn't a terrible person. In truth, Ren is simply someone who always carries justice values within himself. He can't stay still when there is so much inequality and unfairness around the city. His own views of justice is what got him in trouble to begin with. One day Ren punched a drunken man and was sued for it. He tends to let his emotions get the better of him. Sojiro scolds Ren for his behavior saying that he shouldn't get involved with things like that. His legal guardians just want him to stay out of trouble and finish school. What Ren does is the complete opposite of what everyone expects. He's a rebel at heart and it's one of the things that give him power. His Persona is Arsene Lupin to further emphasis that point. He can be agreeable with people who are on the same page as him. On the other hand, he's noted to be an annoyance towards authority figures and people with higher powers. Prosecutor Sae finds herself exhausted whenever she deals with Ren. She can barely get him to cooperate and his attitude makes things worse for her. In other words, he's a headache sometimes.
From the beginning Ren's been ostracized unfairly by others. Despite this, he manages to stay true to his virtues. His belief in his friends and moral justice is what keeps him going. Once Ren has decided on something it's nearly impossible to get him to change his mind. He's stubborn to the core and acts with conviction. These traits of his make him a good leader and someone who can be confided in. He rarely goes back on his word and he's usually honest. His confidants mention how Ren seems sort of earnest. Ren just says things the way he sees it. He's also frank to the point where it can sometimes cause misunderstandings.
In spite of all his flaws and miscomings there are several good qualities about Ren. He's compassionate towards others such as the weak and helpless. His idealism and passion is what eventually creates Phantom Thieves. They're a group that exists to steal the hearts of the wicked and unjust. Ren wishes to reform society at large and works to achieve that goal. He's a hero to some and a criminal to others. A thief isn't exactly a noble occupation and he knows it. Ren tries to work under the shadows with a code name "Joker". When he's working as a Phantom Thief he can be somewhat reckless and unconventional. Ren doesn't have a problem with doing petty thievery things such as...breaking/entering, making infiltration tools, and being shady in general. His brashness is telling since he's frequently doing crazy stunts that might kill a normal man. To him doing all of this is what it means to be a thief. There are risks involved and he's prepared to take them. He becomes more determined and decisive after the Kamoshida incident takes place.
Ren's got some moral values for himself and his comrades. They only act as a group and their targets must be unanimous. When the Phantom Thieves are accused of a crime that they did not commit such as the mental shutdowns as well as the murder of Okumura they're completely outraged. Actions like murder and taking advantage of the helpless goes against their code of conduct. He's set standards for them as their leader and wishes for things to be handled in a certain manner. At this point it's probably unsurprising to say that Ren's good at hiding things. He lived under Sojiro Sakura's roof for six months and did several heists without him knowing. Ren just never mentions these things to people casually. He even hides the fact that he makes bombs during class. The amount of secrets he has is unruly, but that's probably for the best. Not everyone needs to know what goes on during Ren's crazy life. To summarize all of this briefly let's just say that Ren's the type of guy who easily gets misunderstood. He can be reckless, stubborn, and even crazy. However, he acts under a code of justice which he abides by almost dutifully. His friends have decided to put his faith in him and that's what gets his engine going. Without friends or support from various support from outsiders he wouldn't be the person he is today. That is Ren Amamiya in a nutshell.
PERMISSIONS Fighting and Injury: Y Hugging: Y (just keep in mind he's a 17yold) Flirting: I mean sure if you really want to. It might be awkward. Kissing: Ok? look at the answer above. Shipping: I'll just roll with a lot of things. Honestly, the only ship I have a no stance on is Joker/Akechi. Sorry Friends. Fourthwalling: Nah Telepathy/Mind reading: I don't mind but talk to me first Backtagging: Sure thing Warnings: Persona 5 deals with themes of abuse, bullying, harassment, social misconduct and other unfun topics. I'm just putting it out there. Opt out: Comment here to avoid spoilers Other notes: I play Ren using the animation as his base personality. The name was chosen over Akira to reflect that. Japanese voice is slightly preferred. |
